2010 Camaro LS

Today was a day of reckoning for General Motors....with GM formally declaring bankruptcy. I knew it was coming for a long time....the GM financial statements indicated that GM had severe financial problems. I predicted that GM would go into a government sponsored bankruptcy in my post on February 16th, GM Time to Pay The Piper.

So today, I thought that I would bring up a sports car that GM has just debuted. This car has more stories written about the concept car than any other in recent memory. This will one of the cars that will add some sales and profits to GM once that they are out of bankruptcy.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro LS...this is a car with exceptional performance at a bargain basement price of $23,040 USD plus options. This comes with a Aisin six speed manual standard at this price. The Camaro styling is reminiscent of the 1967 original with a long hood and short deck.

The 3.6 liter 304 h.p. V-6 features variable valve timing, direct injection and dual overhead cams. This is the same optional motor that powers the Cadillac CTS, which is a $40K USD plus options automobile. The underpinnings of the car are the same a the Pontiac G8. The engine performance is exceptional at 0 to 60 mph 5.9 sec, braking, 70–0 mph: 173 ft. and a skidpad of 0.87 g. The Camaro LS does get fairly good gas mileage with an estimated city/highway driving of 17/29 mpg.

What is exceptional about the Camaro LS is the performance for the dollar. The Camaro LS outdrags the V-6 versions of the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger. It lacks the power to run with the big boys....the Ford Mustang GT has a 0-60 mph. of 4.9 seconds, and the Chevrolet Camaro SS has 0-60 mph. of 4.8 seconds.

Summary:

My take is that the Chevy Camaro makes a compelling case as a sports car...at an exceptional price! The Camaro LS and LT basically offers a lot of car for minimal dollars. The Pontiac G8 chassis has the Camaro remarkably composed even over bumpy roads and the interior is fairly quiet.

Camaro's are starting to arrive at dealers now!

  1. Hi Pete,
I had a 1967 Camaro. Glad to see this new car at a great price. I am sure that GM will pull out of this mess! You are very accurate on your information. We all appreciate your hard work.
    Thanks again,

  2. Dr. Bob,

This new Camaro resembles the 1967....but it should be more fun! This car is faster, handles better, quieter, more reliable than the 1967.
    I also like driving a classic like a 1967!

GM will come out of this mess! They will be a much better company!

    Thanks for the comments!

  4. Peter, thank you for showing us this beautiful car. Always liked them and the Ford Mustang. They are beautiful. Never owned one, but maybe one day we will. Have a good day.

  5. Hi Hilary,

I am of the opinion that every car has an ideal color or two! In this example, the Camaro looks good in the yellor or the red.

So, I look for pictures that portray the car in the colors taht are attractive. Thanks for the comments!

  6. Hi Dan & Deanna,

Muscle cars are an American version of a sports car! They are just a fun exercise in speed...at a decent price! These versions are the best yet...but they will just be here for a few years then they will gone.

The Mustang seems to have been the only one in production since the beginning. It may continue with smaller yet powerful engine. These changes will be due to the CAFE changes that I outlined in a previous post.

    Thanks for your comment!

  7. The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro LS doesn't give much appeal to me since it looks a lot like its predecessor, the 1967.

  8. Hi Autotry,

I think that styling definitely has to be part of the appeal for a car. The interior has to be attractive to me since I spend a lot of time in cars. The interior of the Camaro looks like they used bargain basement parts.

What I do like is how this car drives! The Pontiac G8 chassis is a great foundation for this car!

Also, I visited your website and blog! Great work your doing there! Thanks for visiting my blog!

  9. hi very good car but how fast is its top speed exactly?

  10. Hi Anonymous,

The speed limiter is currently set at 118....due to the speed that the base tires can handle. They are not Z rated tires!

    Best Regards
