Porsche Boxster

On of the signs of a great sports car is how well it gets the driver involved in the driving. The Boxster is one such comes with a mid-engine powertrain, rear-wheel-drive, 2-passenger, 2-door roadster or 3-door hatchback . Porsche was flirting with bankruptcy earlier in the year due to the severe economic situation...but that is not unusual in these economic times.

The Boxster has won a
Car & Driver 10 best award ten times....which is exceptional by any auto manufacturer. It steers with precision and an incredible balance due to it's mid-engine configuration....with exceptional braking. Check out this Boxster video!

There are two choices the standard Boxster and the Boxster S. The standard Boxster comes equipped with a 2.7 liter flat-six engine with 255 hp., the 0-60 mph time is 5.6 seconds. The Boxster s comes equipped with a 3.4-liter flat-6, 310 hp, 251 lb-ft., the 0-60 mph time is 5.0 seconds. Both models come equipped with Porsche's new dual clutch gearbox which is standard with the 6-speed manual.

The interior includes the redesigned Porsche Communication Management System as an option with a touchscreen interface to reduce button clutter.

My take on this car is that it is an exceptional drivers car. It is not as fast as many of the other sports cars but it handles exceptionally well. Yes, it is expensive since you can get similar performance at a much cheaper price.

  1. Peter, how is it that they did not get into bankruptcy when everyone else is in that boat?
That is a very nice car. Thank you

  2. Hi Dan & Deanna,

Porsche has always been highly fact the most profitable car company in the world per car manufactured.

In the last few years, they had taken on a lot of debt due to expansion of products and acquisitions.

Two things happened...first they were able to restructure some of their debt....second the Cash for Clunkers program started to have an impact. February sales increased sales by 9% in Germany. Also, their main market in the U.S. increased by 14% due to incentives and an increase in sales.

So, one of the main keys to a resurgence is to increase auto sales not keep giving them money.

    Thanks for your great question.

  4. Hi Hugo and Roxanne,

I was looking for a good video that illustrated the driving dynamics of the car but was unable to find one.

The video did give an example of the exhaust note...which is part of driving a sports car.

    Thank you for commenting!

  6. He Giovanna,

Porsche's are real drivers cars! I had one years ago and I loved the way it drove! So...I can understand you having fond memories of your Porsche.

Thank your kind comments! I try to drill down to the essential information so you can get a flavor of the car.

  7. Hi Pete .. thanks for comment re the video - it'd have helped if it had word notations as to what was happening with the gear stick and the hand controls .. = my take = not a good one!!

The orange red I like - just like my Sprite from years ago .. I'd have one!!

    Thanks - Hilary Melton-Butcher

  8. Hi Hilary,

Until I produce my own videos I will have to do with what is available. Actually, I would like to do my own since I can control the content.

The only thing note worthy about the video was the exhaust note. My preference in an exhaust note is a throaty V-8.

The Sprite is going back a ways! Thanks for your comment!
